Starting a New Team

- If you are interested in getting involved with AAU, your best option is to start a new team. To start a team, you need to find a coach, and decide to either

hold open tryouts for players, or get a group of players together. You will need AAU memberships to compete in the state tournament. These can be purchased online at aausports.org. You can also download the forms, fill them out, and mail them to Bob Blanford, the AAU state secretary in Louisville. Bob can be contacted at 1-800-228-4872 for his address and questions about membership.

You will then need to find tournaments. A listing of the AAU state tournaments is available on the Calendar section of this website. You can print the entry form from the Forms section, and mail that to the AAU office in Lexington at : 273 Ruccio Way, Lexington, Ky 40503. You should also fax a copy to 859-224-7804.

You can also usually find tournament listings in your local paper, or at aaubb.com. You may also want to meet some other coaches at tournaments and network with them.

Finding a Team

-Finding a team can be more difficult, as teams are privately organized and usually have a roster of players when they form. Teams may ahve open tryouts, which they would usually list in the local paper. If there is a local rec center or basketball facility, you may want to see if they have teams. Most AAU teams select top players from area schools, so you can check with your school's coach to find out if they know of any teams in your area.

If you have any more questions, you may contact AAU basketball at 859-219-8677.
